Spending Ourselves for Christ
Robert D. McCurley
Churches today face two competing and contradictory messages: the increasingly popular save your life model and the nearly-forgotten lose your life model. Under the former model, many view God as a means to their own personal ends. They conclude – wrongly – that God exists to promote their own happiness and self-indulgence. By way of contrast, the Lord demands a life of sacrifice, a life expended in the service of Christ’s kingdom. God’s Church must reassert God’s emphases, magnifying the pattern of Christ the Savior. He beckons us to pursue spiritual renewal amid loss, not physical rejuvenation for personal gain. Spending Ourselves for Christ urges us to pour out our whole life, holding back nothing, in the pursuit of holiness and kingdom advance.
