Preserving Our Heritage for the Next Generation—
For more than a century and a half, the split-leaf psalter has been preserved in print and in use among psalm-singing churches across the world. In recent years, however, the quality of available editions has declined, even as the cost of producing such a volume has risen sharply.
In our own time, the need became evident for a newly typeset edition—one that carefully preserves the integrity of the 1650 Scottish Metrical text, while improving its design, function, and selection of tunes. To that end, the psalter has been fully redesigned and entrusted to a bindery in the United States capable of producing a durable and attractive volume.
Such a work cannot be sustained by retail sales alone. The Heritage Edition—limited to 150 finely bound volumes—has been prepared both as a memorial of the Lord’s provision and as a means of securing the funds necessary for a large cloth-bound printing. Without it, the cost of the split-leaf psalter would place it beyond the reach of many. Through this edition, provision is made for its affordable and continued use throughout the church.

Every detail of our new typesetting has been thoughtfully considered.
While the text of the 1650 Scottish Metrical Psalter has been carefully preserved, a number of features have been included alongside the text to aid the reader in both singing and understanding.
Helps have also been added or improved to assist the reader in selecting Psalms topically and pairing suitable tunes with each Psalm.
