Rev. Dr. Thomas Halyburton was a son of a Covenanter who became one of the first minsters in the Church of Scotland after the “Killing Times.” He was very doctrinal, practical and experimental (experiential) in his ministry.

Have we believed in Jesus Christ to the saving of our souls? The grace of God in the lives of His people may have a secret beginning, but its progress ought to be known by its fruits. While ultimately Scripture must validate our profession, we may learn from the pilgrimage of noted Christians. The rise of spiritual concern, the deepening of conviction, the liberty of the gospel, the conflict with Satan, the persuit of holiness and a blessed eternity, all these vital subjects and more are to be found in this volume.

This volume contains Halyburton’s Memoirs, as well as two sermons, The Obligation of Oaths to Posterity, and A Short Account of Lady Anne Elcho’s Death—noting that none of these latter three have previously been published in a volume of Halyburton’s works.
